Medical Student Clerkship
Pacific Pulmonary Medical Group is affiliated with UC Riverside Medical School and is one of the primary facilities for the UC Riverside School of Medicine Community Based Clerkship Program.
The Medical Student Clerkship Program offers 3rd year Medical Students a broad array of elective clinical rotations that foster growth of medical knowledge through direct patient-care experiences.
Pacific Pulmonary Medical Group physicians are UCR Medical School Clinical Faculty Members and are the official perceptors to teach 3rd year medical students essential clinical and practical skills in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. The students will be exposed to various pulmonary problems presenting in the outpatient and inpatient setting. Emphasis will be placed on history, physical exam and arriving at differential diagnoses. Basic skills in interpretation of a standard chest x-ray, CAT scan of the chest as well as pulmonary function tests will be stressed throughout the rotation. The students will also be provided the opportunity to gain knowledge and increase clinical skills in evaluation and therapy of the critically ill patient.
At times, our patients may notice medical students participating with our doctors and mid-level practitioners in their care. Although medical students are an integral part of the healthcare team and are involved in the decision making process of the patient care , they are only given responsibilities commensurate with their ability.
The students will be working with a PPMG physician at all times. No student is allowed to participate in patient care without extensive training and supervision.
